The Eureka Stockade: A significant event

You are currently employed by a prominent daily newspaper. Your editorial team has been commissioned to produce the commemorative issue for the 150th Anniversary of the Eureka Stockade. Your task is to produce the front page of this edition.

Students will understand the Eureka Stockade from different perspectives eg. women, children, aboriginal, Chinese, miners, settlers and troopers

Explain

	The role in the event of chosen group
	What happened to that group
	How roles have changed from past to present.

Allocate roles for research groups. Collect information from electronic, paper and other sources. Complete retrieval chart. ( paper or electronic based) Jigsaw to share information

Read historical narratives from different perspectives and listen to present day speakers in similar roles. Complete comparison charts of similarities and differences between their roles now and then.

Students describe the events of the Eureka Stockade.

The eyewitness account is:

a historically correct recount of the events

Using electronic and paper based resources to research and present the events of the "Eureka Stockade".

Library skills focus. (Students select most suitable presentation form (eg. powerpoint, timeline, report, etc.)

Students explain the significance of Eureka Stockade in Australian History.

Identify and explain the

implications of the Eureka Stockade on different social groups and issues in Australian society.

Substantive conversation ongoing throughout the unit.

Student create an electronically published document to emulate a newspaper.

Students will

	create a document selecting appropriate software.
	investigate newspaper formats to determine what is to be included in their presentation eg. images, text, and appropriate headline, advertisements, editorials etc.
	link information sources.
	save and link within eduweb
	written in the first person

Deconstruction of various current and historical newspaper texts.

Locate relevant sites for graphics, fonts, texts and save into EduWeb folder.

Plan layout.

Select appropriate software to incorporate features of a newspaper (html compatible.)

Draft, edit and publish to EduWeb.
