Grime Scene Investigation
A targeted fieldwork program for talented Stage 3 Science and Technology students to celebrate World Environment Day 2008

Georges River
Grime Scene Study Location - Georges River Estuary

Grime Scene Investigation is a Stage 3 Science and Technology/Environmental Education project, involving an investigation by a team of 'scientists' into the health of an estuary. The scenario for this project was based on 'River City Council' engaging the team to undertake the study to be later included in the council's 'State of the Environment Report'.

Teams focused on an ecosystem within the Georges River estuary close to Sylvania Public School. By taking on the roles of an ecologist, biologist, water quality chemist and environmental scientist, the team along with their teacher conducted their study of water quality, adaptations of living theings, viewed plankton under a microscope projection, undertook a fish dissection, classified species and discussed environmental issues of concern in and around the waterway. The results of this study are listed below. Teams were encouraged to make their presentations available to the Centre and local councils.

The Grime Scene Investigation project promotes student investigations into the local environment and environmental management issues in catchments.

The GSI project was supported by a grant from the Sydney Catchment Management Authority to promote Stage 3 Science and Technology
(ecosystems, estuaries and adaptations of living things) and the professional learning of teachers.
