Outcomes

Background Information

You must identify an endangered rainforest animal in the park you work in.

  • What are the characteristic features of your identified animal?
  • You might include such things as a brief description of the animal, a description of the animals habitat, what the animal eats, where the animal is found, why the animal is endangered and what action can be taken to protect the animal?
  • You must also include your reasons for selecting the particular animal.
  • Record your information here.
  • These links may be helpful.

You must also research the following.

  • Where is your park located? I expect to see geographical terminology used to describe the location of your park. Eg: latitude, longitude, and southern hemisphere.
  •  A map  of the location of your park should also be included. Use this map.

Your research notes must be handed in with your other completed tasks. Your research must be supported by a bibliography. It is your decision how you wish to present the research.

You will need to research and record all relevant information in order to complete the following tasks. Your research must assist you in deciding what can be done to assist the survival of this animal.  On completion of your initial research you must complete the outlined tasks. See also the assessment link so you are clear on the expectations.

Tasks

1.    You are required to present a summary of your findings at your next international training conference. The audience for your presentation will be park rangers from all other national parks across the country and across the world.

2.   You are to prepare an educational tool to raise community awareness about the animal you have chosen. You will need to consider the most effective way to reach the community.  The educational message will focus around the issue of balancing the human demands of the park with protecting the animal.

3.   Your national manager has given you $7000 to plan your strategy for protection of the animal. You need to consider the costs you may incur. Eg: Educational materials, Awareness camps, Fencing. Additional expenses will become evident to you as you complete your research.  You must present your budget on a spreadsheet.

Presentation

Using the Edu Utility a blank power point presentation named 'findings.ppt' can be placed in each students work folder. The student then opens 'findings.ppt' to complete their work. The 'findings.ppt' is hyperlinked and can be viewed in the web browser. This ensures all students have the presentation saved in the correct folder.
