Rainforests

Stage 3 children at Sylvania Heights Public School have explored the HSIE Rainforest Unit. This unit has been designed to integrate English, HSIE and Computer Technology so much so that technology plays a major role. Three online tasks are included in this website and a number of teaching resources such as appropriate syllabus outcomes across the curriculum and useful websites. The pacing guide details other activities related to the unit and actual work samples of the online activities have been included.

Background Information

There is a proposal for development of a high rise resort to be situated in the Minamurra Falls. There is concern that the development will greatly effect the rainforest environment. The development involves a:

  • Ten storey tall luxury accommodation, which involves underground plumbing and
     cabling systems
  • Bar and night club
  • Roads and pathways for human traffic
  • Rope walk created in remaining canopy
  • Scenic chairlift at the emergent level
  • Regular night and day feedings of wildlife

 

Task

You need to prepare a presentation for Minamurra Falls Council against the development.

In your presentation you must;

  • Outline the benefits of  rainforest
  • Include the impact each of the dot points above will have in the rainforest environment.
  • Discuss the effects to the wildlife, plants, insects and the rainforest structure.

 

You can present this in a variety of forms
eg. talk, audio tape, flow chart, short video,
 diagrams PowerPoint presentation

or any other form of your choice.
