Closing the Gap was an action-research project whose purpose was to determine whether the implementation of the Quality Teaching Framework (QTF) can be demonstrated to result in real and sustainable improvements in student learning outcomes.

 

The project involved explicit teacher professional development in the QTF, and a lesson study approach to reflection on practice. The project proved to a have long term and sustainable impact on the quality of teacher practices of the teachers that were involved and this was linked to a marked improvement in students' learning outcomes.

 

The outcomes of the project also include a professional learning package and online resource to support schools in replicating the action research process and subsequently closing the achievement gap.
